Dream trips: the Maldives resort with the slide to dive into the sea
Find the child in you: in the Maldives, in the Noonu Atoll, there is a resort with two-story villas equipped with a slide, to dive directly into the sea as soon as you wake up. It is one of the most beautiful, because built on the coral reef
Soneva Jani, a resort opened just over a year ago in the Maldives, around the island of Medhufaru, is located half an hour from the capital Male. It can only be reached by seaplane, which lands at the floating airport, or by motorboat. The 24 overwater villas are set on a beautiful lagoon of crystal clear water, connected to each other by a wooden walkway. Each has a private 13-meter pool where lucky guests can sunbathe and relax overlooking the lagoon or dive directly into the ocean via a slide.
Soneva Jani, from the name of the two owners of the structure, Sonu Shivdasani, a British Indian who 20 years ago with his wife Eva discovered the island on their honeymoon (over the years have opened other resorts), focuses on responsible tourism and eco sustainable. The pools use desalinated sea water while the villas are built above the lagoon so as not to damage the coral reef. Furthermore, waste is treated in order not to throw away anything.
At guests’ disposal there are also an astronomical observatory and an open-air cinema. To protect the nesting of sea turtles and wildlife, viewers can watch the movie with Bluetooth headphones.
Some of the villas on the water also have a retractable roof to admire the stars from the bedroom. A holiday in the luxury resort, however, has its price: six nights in one of the villas (550 square meters, two bathrooms, two bedrooms, for 4 people) start at 20,000 euros.
