LUXURY TRAVEL TIPS

As many hotels are built on small hills, always ask for your room to be allocated as high as possible to ensure you have the best views.

Keep in mind that the island can be windy, so ask your hotel concierge to recommend the best beach for your preferred activity based on the day’s weather conditions.

There are a limited number of taxis in Mykonos, so ask your travel advisor to arrange private transfers. Alternatively, once you have arrived at your hotel, ask the concierge to help you organize them.

Language and culture

The official language of Mykonos is Greek, but English is widely spoken across the island.

You will find that Greek people are incredibly welcoming, especially when meeting you for the first time.

It is also important to be aware of some key body language differences to the English- speaking West. In Greece, shaking your head from side to side indicates ‘yes’, whilst nodding your head will be understood as ‘no’.

Useful phrases

Greek is a famously difficult language for foreigners to grasp, but on Mykonos you will find that most Greeks speak English alongside one other language. A simple ‘yah sas’ (hello) or ‘efharisto’ (thank you) will be warmly welcomed, although you do not need an understanding of the language to get by in Greece.

  • Good morning – kaliméra
  • Good evening –  kalispéra
  • Good night – kaliníhta
  • Hi – yah sas
  • Yes – ne
  • No – óhi
  • Thank you – efcharistó
  • Please – parakaló
  • How are you? – tikanis
  • I don’t understand – Den katálava

The interiors have been arranged to promote calm and serenity.
Light creamy colors have been chosen to promote this effect across the walls and furnishings.
These are appropriately accompanied with a sprinkle of vibrant objets d’art placed around the home.
The living room is comfortably equipped with plentiful seating and comprehensive home entertainment system.
The kitchen is well equipped for a personal chef or those who love to cook, and the interior dining room can seat up to eight people.

Leisurely activities abound in St. Tropez and are never too far from Villa. Only a short drive, one can find various water sports, horseback riding or polo and lots of wine tasting.

Dream trips: the Maldives resort with the slide to dive into the sea

Dream trips: the Maldives resort with the slide to dive into the sea

Find the child in you: in the Maldives, in the Noonu Atoll, there is a resort with two-story villas equipped with a slide, to dive directly into the sea as soon as you wake up. It is one of the most beautiful, because built on the coral reef

Soneva Jani, a resort opened just over a year ago in the Maldives, around the island of Medhufaru, is located half an hour from the capital Male. It can only be reached by seaplane, which lands at the floating airport, or by motorboat. The 24 overwater villas are set on a beautiful lagoon of crystal clear water, connected to each other by a wooden walkway. Each has a private 13-meter pool where lucky guests can sunbathe and relax overlooking the lagoon or dive directly into the ocean via a slide.

Soneva Jani, from the name of the two owners of the structure, Sonu Shivdasani, a British Indian who 20 years ago with his wife Eva discovered the island on their honeymoon (over the years have opened other resorts), focuses on responsible tourism and eco sustainable. The pools use desalinated sea water while the villas are built above the lagoon so as not to damage the coral reef. Furthermore, waste is treated in order not to throw away anything.

At guests' disposal there are also an astronomical observatory and an open-air cinema. To protect the nesting of sea turtles and wildlife, viewers can watch the movie with Bluetooth headphones.

Some of the villas on the water also have a retractable roof to admire the stars from the bedroom. A holiday in the luxury resort, however, has its price: six nights in one of the villas (550 square meters, two bathrooms, two bedrooms, for 4 people) start at 20,000 euros.

A COUNTRYSIDE RETREAT IN TUSCANY

You know that being surrounded by loved ones in a gorgeous villa is the height of luxury. It turns out to be even more amazing if the villa is lost somewhere in the Tuscan countryside. In Tuscany, the weather is mild in March, although the sun is still too shy to make the gardens and fruit trees bloom. Never mind, go in search of another treasure native to the region: the truffle. The truffle hunting season runs from mid-December to mid-March. Guided by a local hunter and his dogs, explore the centuries-old oak forests in search of this precious delicacy, to be accompanied by a good Chianti.

Another Tuscan tradition to discover in March is the cigar. Unknown to ordinary tourists, "Toscani cigaris" are very famous among cigar lovers. With the help of your Tailor, organise a private visit to one of the last Tuscan workshops, where cigars are still rolled by hand, with the purest respect for tradition. An original and unexpected way to spend your luxury Italy holiday.

Visiting Italy in March: A MOUNTAIN GETAWAY IN LAKE COMO

After the magic of Carnival and before the excitement of spring, the month of March is an enchanting interlude in Italy.

March is a particularly quiet month for a trip to Italy. It comes after the excitement of the Venice Carnival, and before spring, which marks the return of sunny days and lunches on the terrace. But that takes nothing away from the charm of La Botte. On the contrary, the low season invites you to adopt a slower pace. "Qui va piano va sano" as the Italians put so well.

So then, where to go when you visit Italy in March to experience la Dolce Vita? We can't decide between Lake Como, with its grandiose landscapes and its picturesque villages, Tuscany with its endless countryside painted with vines and olive trees, and Sicily, with its ancient cities and wild nature, absolutely deserted at this time of the year. Follow IKH VILLAS's guide and discover where to go while travelling to Italy in March!

A MOUNTAIN GETAWAY IN LAKE COMO

March is the perfect time to discover Lake Como. The weather in Italy in March is still cool, but the fog that envelops the lake during the winter months has lifted, revealing the beauty of this unique landscape. The villages that dot the shores of Lake Como are like life-size nativity scenes. Strolling through the narrow streets, one is immediately struck by their old-fashioned and authentic charm, with their colourful houses, old bell towers and sleepy gardens.

The coolness of March makes the walk particularly pleasant. And that's good, because northern Italy offers absolutely magnificent hiking trails. Start with the Traveler's Path (“Il Sentiero Del viandante”), bordered by Lake Como on one side and the mountains on the other. It connects the villages of Varenne and Bellano, and offers an exceptional view of the opposite side of the lake.
