Balearics in Music: musical appointments between Mallorca and Menorca

Vincaré-Sitarie Mallorca and Menorca this winter is nicer if you follow the notes that pervade the two Balearic islands. Classical music lovers – and not only – will be able to take advantage of the many appointments that mark the calendar of the coming months.

The Concert Season
The first date on the event calendar was the opening of the concert season for music by the Balloar Symphony Orchestra, which took place on 19 October. A schedule that counts a total of 15 concerts that will continue until May 17 and which take place in the Auditorium of Palma, an important venue for symphonic enthusiasts, which hosted international concerts. The Balearic Symphony Orchestra is one of the main symphonies of Spain. Founded in 1988, the orchestra goes much further than concerts in the Auditorium of Palma: you can actually hear it in many other places on the island of Majorca, like Bellver Castle, but also in Menorca at the Maó Theater .
Also in Majorca, from November to June, the concert season of the Fondazione Studium Aureum, which was created in 2009 by music director Carles Ponseti, aims to promote artistic values and support the work of its musicians through concerts and activities. Two are the soul groups of the Foundation, the Studium Cor de Cambra, a chorus that surprises the audience by exploring new sounds, and Studium Aureum, a vocal-instrumental group that works on the earliest harmonies. The eclectic repertoire of the two groups is appreciable in the Auditorium of the Conservatory of Palma, in a series of initiatives that include interesting proposals grouped in cycles, monographs, representations and conferences.

Celebrating Santa Cecilia
Around November 22nd, a day dedicated to Santa Cecilia, the famous Roman martyr of music, the island is filled with melodies of all styles and tastes. In Palma, for example, on November 19 at 20 at the Cathedral of Majorca there will be a concert organ organized in honor of the Holy, while November 22 will be an opportunity to attend the Centro de Cultura Sa Nostra at the last concert of the IV Autumn Festival, and November 25 at 18 will be held the Tobrada de Bandes de Santa Cecilia, a meeting of music bands at the Conservatory of Palma. Concluding this rich musical calendar, the 29th and 30th November at Teatre Principal will be an opportunity to attend concerts for families.
The Santa Romana is also honored with events dedicated to Menorca, precisely to Maó, where on November 27th the Concerto di Santa Cecilia is organized by the Choir of Maó. Born in the second half of the nineteenth century, this choir originally came together to sing serenades and to perform during popular festivals. Since then, its activity has been unbroken and today, with its 40 voices and over 125 years of history, is one of the most famous musical groups on the island, as well as one of the oldest choirs in Spain.

At Tutto Jazz
Even jazz lovers will find what they do for Majorca in Majorca. From November 28 to December 10, there is the Alternatilla festival (Jazz Auf Mallorca 2017), a cultural project that is the meeting point of local, national and international musicians. An extensive program of jazz concerts, workshops and photo exhibitions promises to make the island fall in love even in late fall. The slogan of the festival, and the key to its success, is to give priority to quality with respect to works or styles that are more commercially available, embodying the cultural landscape as a truly attractive and innovative leisure alternative that spans between the various scenarios of the island ; in fact, every concert is scheduled to be in a different place to give maximum emphasis to every appointment.

Holiday Music
The Majorca party week opens in music on December 21, with an extraordinary concert in San Francesc, followed by a second appointment for the next day at the Conservatory.
The Christmas night in Majorca is celebrated throughout the island with the Matines (Messe of Midnight) to commemorate the birth of Jesus. The most significant moment of these appointments is the Cant de la Sibila that every year leaves the audience open . Declared UNESCO’s Immaterial Cultural Heritage in 2010, is a show worth seeing and living. This song, of very ancient origin, is preserved only in Alguer – in Sardinia – and in Majorca. The most spectacular matines are that of the Cathedral of Majorca and that of the sanctuary of Lluc, where also the christening choir known as Els blauets de Lluc, which with its extraordinary voices completes this celebration full of meaning.
The first day of 2018 will be the occasion to attend the Teatre Principal at an extraordinary concert, while on January 2,

Balearic Islands, 14 things to do all year round
Here are some ideas on what to do and see in Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera taking advantage of a off-season trip (and certainly cheaper!).

Majorca, hunting for cribs

The month of December is perfect for discovering cribs, shrines and real treasures. Like that of the Palau March, a Neapolitan cloak of the eighteenth century composed of over two thousand handmade pieces.

The traditional Mallorcan crib of the Sa Nostra Cultural Center has a curious particularity: it is shaped like an island. The town of Palma is set in the most emblematic places in the city and is undoubtedly the most nostalgic.

Menorca and Ibiza, a fascinating story

It is possible to explore different itineraries and to explore the historical events that have marked the development of Menorca and Ibiza.

You can start from Menorca, from the port of Maó, following the military itinerary (the fortified route). The immense fortress of the Mola, full of underground galleries, first defensive lines and ancient dusters, rises into a magnificent natural landscape.

An interesting itinerary follows the “British Route” (British Route), the traces left by the British during the period when the island was annexed between the English crown territories. Between masseries, fortresses, walls, towers, and museums is just a matter of bargaining.

On holiday in Ibiza with children: many activities to do for every kind of family Go to the gallery (7 photos)
Ibiza has not only paradisiacal beaches, but also a millennial cultural heritage.

The white churches, the walls of Dalt Vila – declared by the UNESCO World Heritage – are just a few examples. An original way of knowing them is to take part in theatricalized visits (in the costume of the time!) That are celebrated every Saturday of the year.

Teatralized visits are organized throughout the year even at the Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins every last Sunday of each month

Formentera, nature and exploration

Peace and tranquility increase exponentially at this time of year on this island that already calms its own.

If tranquility is for your family, enjoy every corner of the island exploring the 32 green itineraries that the island has to offer. More than 100 km walk or bike ride.

To discover calmly and step by step the waters of Ses Salines, the endless beach of Ses Illetes, the rural landscapes of the hinterland and the iconic Faro de La Mola.

In the eastern part of the island, between the port of La Savina and Cala Saona, one meets what once was a quarry, Sa Pedrera: a jagged coast formed by a desert of rocks with strange and unusual shapes. And there is also the Can Marroig Interpretation Center that offers interactive teaching activities for children and families.

Where to go to the beach, take the aperitif, take a walk and sleep: here’s all you need to know for a perfect vacation in Rhodes

It tells the story that Apollo, the Sun God, has chosen her as a home, and that is why 300 days of good weather in Rhodes are held in Rhodes.

Not far from Pollon and other gods, however, the truth is that Rhodos is an island that is worth visiting for so many reasons, of which the climate (almost) always sunny and the temperatures (almost) always mild during all seasons I’m just a small (though significant) part.

Rhodes is a magic island where you can dive into the ancient history of ancient Greece and walk through the walls of its medieval town (UNESCO Heritage Site), but also change the beach and panorama every morning, choosing a day to snorkel in a cove of deserted sand and the next day to devote himself to kitesurfing and the most frequented lids.

Between romantic coves to watch the sunset with a beer in hand and handicraft shops where to give free shopping, here’s all there is to know about Rhodes.

The west coast, overlooking the Aegean (most moved), is characterized by rocky, rocky and rocky walls and pebble beaches, while the eastern (Mediterranean) is ideal for those who love the sandy beaches that blend into the sea with a long wetgish.

In addition to this there are plenty of creeks and each beach is different from one another, so it’s worth renting a car (the island is too big to be scooter) and exploring the territory to find out the various aspects.

Keep in mind that the air temperature is mild for almost 12 months a year, however the sea remains cool even in the summer.

In general, the most beautiful beaches are located on the north-east side of the island, between the city of Rhodes and Lindos.

The most famous beach of Rhodes is known as Antony Quinn Bay (but called Faliraki), an inlet between the rocks with crystal clear water and incredible colors (the beach is rocky but equipped, and with 10 euros you take two sun loungers and one Beach umbrella).

Prassonissi is a sandy isthmus frequented by sports enthusiasts by sailing, because it is extremely airy (and therefore it is here that all surf lovers, windsurfers and kites are here), but it is an incredibly beautiful beach that is worth a visit also seen by those who do not intend to get up from the towel.

Special mention, then, for the beach of Rhodes, which has nothing remarkable in itself but lies at the point where the two seas (Aegean and Mediterranean) join and with certain light conditions from here you can see a line that divides them.

Lindos is undoubtedly the most beautiful thing you will see in Rhodes. It is a fascinating and breathtaking country where you can breathe that summer air and vacation that only the lime painting of the Greek alleys can convey with such simplicity and immediacy to the brain.

Surrounded by a cliff and wrapped between a North Bay and a South Beach, the White House is located on the east coast of the island and is ideal for a stroll at any time of the day.

Park in the square at the entrance of the village and enter the pedestrian center: dozens of streets full of beautiful craft shops and localies where you can stroll as you climb the castle castle where the Acropolis rises.

On the road, uphill or downhill, stop for a refreshing break in one of the many bars, clubs and restaurants with the roof terrace, where to sit at a coffee table under the shade of plants.

Do not miss a visit to the Church of Panagia, a small church in the middle of the country entirely covered with frescoes.

It could be said that all the streets of Lindos lead to the Acropolis, but the truth is that it is only if the bivouac always chooses the road that goes uphill.

In the middle of the village, in fact, part of a path that rises to the fortified castle fortress of the Knights, where the Acropolis and the Doric Temple of Athena Lindia arise, dating back to 300 BC.

You can decide to climb a donkey’s back (there is a store in the country impossible to notice), or walk a 300-step path – more than you can without great effort, unless you want to try l ‘It feels like riding a donkey.

Once on, you will have the feeling of dominating the world, with a breathtaking 360 ° panorama.
